David Batchelor

David Batchelor is a Scottish artist and writer who primarily explores the notion of colour and our own responses to colour within society. He is best known for his vivid three dimensional structures made from re-purposed domestic and light industrial objects such as light boxes, dollies and detergent bottles which have been augmented to enhance their synthetic colour; a colour that can only have been created by a modern world.

"Flatlands Remix" Exhibition

This exhibition is based on David Batchelor’s most recent solo exhibition Flatlands shown at Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh and Spike Island, Bristol. The title Flatlands comes from Edwin A. Abbott’s novella Flatland, whose narrator, a square who inhabits the two-dimensions of Flatland, explores the realms of one and three dimensions in order to consider how hard it is to conceive of dimensions outside of one’s own experience.
